Appraisals:

As ORRA Inc. certified appraiser’s we have passed both the written and physical examination required by the Oriental Rug Retailers of America Incorporated or ORRA Inc... We provide appraisals that are recognized by all entities that require an expert opinion.  If you are considering a 2008 charitable donation, we are recognized by the IRS to assist you (see http://www.irs.gov/irb/2008-40_IRB/ar13.html, for current 2008 IRS regulations) with a certified ORRA Inc. appraisal.  Having grown up cleaning, repairing and selling has only engrained a perspective of the many challenges that make up the value of any given carpet, thus allowing us to see the unseen and recognize value in a way that only time can teach.

We also continue to reeducate ourselves by attending Markets where new merchandise is traded so as to keep up with the current merchandise being offered for sale by the trade.  Following the various auction houses to keep abreast of the Semi-Antique and Antique carpet market offerings allows Babaian Rug the perspective that only a trained active carpet person whom understands the many credits and flaws that give value to any one textile art pieces. 

Our library is well stocked with periodicals and books, all focused on Rugs and carpets with many assorted Books on textiles of interest as well.  Alex and Armen attend numerous events and markets throughout the world allowing us to understand the influences that affect value.

Alex Babaian trained under Ruth Kao at UWM in the weaving department where he learned about the many types of looms and related weaving techniques employed in the textile industry.  With over 200 yes two hundred various grades of wool and as many grades of silk not to mention cotton and synthetics you need our trained eye and our hands on experience to guide your decision with regard to the valuation of hand made carpets and rugs.

Age guide lines:

1 to 20 years = New

20 to 50 years = Old

50 to 99 years = Semi- Antique

100 + years = Antique

After 100 we attempt to associate the carpet with a historic event as well as dateing.
